There are so many reasons why goal setting works and why goal setting does not work. If your goal is not aligned with your values then you are not driven toward the goal. So if my values were not around HEALTH and I set a health goal there is a good chance I will quit the goal because I am not attached to it emotionally.
Lucky my goals are aligned with great health. I began 2018 detoxing to become really well for the next part of my life. Not only did I embark on an extensive Cell Detox program, I also cleaned out my apartment thoroughly. There were some times I wanted to give up. I began looking at all the reasons why I should stop like a heat wave, the lift broke down so I now have to walk 5 flights of stairs and I am training every day.
Have you ever set a goal and you wanted to give up or it didn’t work for you? And does that stop you from setting goals that are meaningful to you now? I think we have all been through that experience. I also think that if you learn to set a goal with both your Conscious Mind (write it out) and Subconscious mind and connect with the goal emotionally in every cell of your body) and body (acting on the goal) working together, you may find much greater success. Every time I had an inkling of doubt I had a great result on the scales so that gave me the motivation to continue to the end.
Dr John Demartini wrote “Your brain is set up to help you fulfil your life and it is doing everything it can to help you to live your life to the fullest. Sometimes we don’t take advantage of all the tools that we have access to that can help us.”
Often Goal Setting in the New Year and New Year’s resolutions do not work because people do not look and deal with what might prevent them from achieving a goal. As much as we need to focus on the positive aspects of achieving goals, we also need to deal with what has prevented us from achieving that goal in the past, especially if it is a recurring New Year’s resolution.
Ask yourself “Am I really in love with achieving this goal”? If you LOVE the goal you are setting then you have both the Conscious Mind, The Sub-conscious mind and the body all working together to assist you. You are emotionally attached to the outcome so it’s easier to get up every morning and do the ‘To Do List’ that will create it.
So ask yourself the following question:
- Where am I now with this goal? (Present state eg I am not earning what I would like to)
- Where would I like to be? (Desired state or goal eg I am so excited I am earning $_______ and it is on or before 1 June 2018)
- What currently prevents me? (List all the things that currently prevent you or have prevented you in the past from getting your goal actions, beliefs and emotions)
- What am I willing to do to gain my goal and overcome what has prevented me? (Make your strategic plan)
